Gothic Literature & Women: The Female History of Horror
About
A Seed Talks lecture by Dr Maisha Wester on the feminist history of Gothic literature and horror, with a Q&A, at Harbour Lights Picturehouse.
Dr Maisha Wester explores the links between Gothic literature and First-wave Feminism, tracing how the French Revolution shaped both Gothic fiction and early reflections on women's rights. The talk moves through novels from Leonora Sansay's A Secret History to Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat, examining how adaptations often soften the horror of domesticity in works like Wuthering Heights and Rebecca. Doors open at 6:30pm with the talk starting at 7pm, followed by a Q&A. The event is for ages 16+ and lasts about two hours and fifteen minutes.
