Reading and Phonics Support

Free 20-minute reading buddy sessions where Sutton Grammar sixth form volunteers help children aged 3–8 with reading, phonics and comprehension.

Sutton Council has partnered with Sutton Grammar School, whose sixth form students volunteer to read with younger children or be read to, helping them with phonics and comprehension in a fun way. Sessions run for 20 minutes each, and each child earns a star on the Reading Buddy chart as they progress. Children attending their first session receive a free copy of Gruffalo Granny to keep. The event is for children aged 3–8, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
