Concert: A Seasonal Celebration of Benjamin Britten
About
A candlelit concert of Britten's A Ceremony of Carols and A Boy was Born by the St Margaret's Choristers and Consort at St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey.
The St Margaret's Choristers and Consort of Westminster Abbey perform two Christmas choral works by Benjamin Britten in a candlelit concert beside the church's Christmas Tree. The programme opens with A Ceremony of Carols, a sequence of miniatures for treble voices and harp framed by a plainsong processional and recessional, followed by A Boy was Born, a virtuosic set of variations for unaccompanied mixed choir and treble chorus. Marking 50 years and a day since Britten's death, the hour-long concert is a tribute to one of the most influential figures in 20th-century English music. Doors open at 18:10 and the concert begins at 18:30.
