Re/Assemble
About
A free exhibition at People's History Museum exploring the 1988 Section 28 protest in Manchester, with commissioned artworks and artefacts.
Re/Assemble, by Manchester-based arts organisation IAP:MCR, explores the 1988 Section 28 protest in Manchester, when 20,000 people marched in the 'Never Going Underground' demonstration against the clause prohibiting the 'promotion of homosexuality'. The exhibition features specially commissioned artworks responding to Section 28's legacy, exploring themes of protest and resilience and celebrating queer voices and creativity. These are displayed alongside historic and contemporary artefacts from the museum's collection, including protest banners and objects, and include Anna Appleby's 'Never Going Underground', performed by Sherpa K. Accessible formats such as BSL-interpreted films, braille, large print guides and audio narration are available.
