The Unending Vigil - Known Unto God

A talk by Pontefract Civic Society on the history of the Imperial and Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

This presentation traces how the First World War created the challenge of honouring soldiers killed across the globe, leading families of all classes to demand respect for the fallen. It tells the story of the emergence of the Imperial War Graves Commission and its successor, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and the difficulties it faced in paying due respect to those who gave their lives. The talk lasts two hours and is hosted by Pontefract Civic Society Talks.
