About

Alpaqa's play, JEEZUS!, is a queer coming-of-age story set in 1990s Peru under the Fujimori dictatorship, exploring themes of faith, guilt, and politics.

Presented by migrant-led company Alpaqa, the play is set in 1990s Peru. It follows altar boy Jesús as he prepares for his first communion while navigating feelings that conflict with the expectations of the time. The production explores themes of queer coming-of-age, Catholic guilt, and the political climate of the Fujimori dictatorship, using live music and dark humour. The performance runs for approximately 75 minutes and is recommended for audiences aged 16 and over.
