Oktay Üst: Folk Songs of the Black Sea and Turkish Anatolia
About
Acclaimed Black Sea singer and multi-instrumentalist Oktay Üst performs folk songs of the Black Sea and Turkish Anatolia in an intimate Cambridge concert.
Oktay Üst, a native Laz speaker and founder of the Black Sea group Karmate, presents music of the Black Sea and Turkish Anatolia in an intimate live concert at Clare Hall. His repertoire moves between Laz, Turkish and other Anatolian traditions, exploring the connection between music and place — from exuberant dances and communal celebrations to songs of separation, hardship and homesickness. He is joined by Turkish musicians based in the UK for an evening of traditional instruments and singing. The performance lasts 90 minutes.
