About

A free multimedia exhibition by Chris Leslie marking 30 years since the demolition of Ravenscraig's cooling towers, at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre.

Documentary photographer and filmmaker Chris Leslie presents The Last Foundations, marking 30 years since the demolition of Ravenscraig's three cooling towers and two gas holders on 28 July 1996. Working with former workers and the local community, the project combines film, photography, oral history recordings, archival material and interviews to document the former steelworks site and surrounding community today. The exhibition explores how the closure of what was once Western Europe's largest hot strip steel mill has shaped Motherwell and Wishaw over three decades, and how memory, resilience and identity endure.
