Adrian Backshall recounts the history and restoration of Polegate Windmill, from its 1817 construction to later repairs and replacement sails.

Adrian Backshall’s talk covers Polegate Windmill’s working life and restoration. Built in 1817, it was powered by wind until 1943, then by auxiliary engine and electricity until 1965. The account follows its subsequent restoration, including replacement stocks and sails, further repairs in 2004 and new sails in 2009. The event title spells “Polgate”; the body text names Polegate Windmill. Tickets are £8 for members and £10 for non-members, plus booking fees.
