Mary Anning – Fossil Hunter
About
An exhibition at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, guest curated by Tracy Chevalier, celebrating fossil hunter Mary Anning's life and discoveries.
Guest curated by author Tracy Chevalier, this exhibition marks 180 years since the death of Lyme Regis fossil hunter Mary Anning, whose discoveries of extinct marine reptiles transformed scientific thinking. Displays include fossils found by Anning, a cast of the first Ichthyosaur skull she discovered with her brother Joseph, letters and drawings, and a recreated Jurassic beach made by Arts University Bournemouth students where visitors can hunt for hidden fossils. The exhibition explores both the beach where she searched and the town of Lyme Regis where she lived and worked.
