Peter Orlando Hutchinson – Some New Insights

Nigel Hyman gives a Devonshire Association talk on Victorian Sidmouth historian Peter Orlando Hutchinson, preceded by a brief East Devon branch AGM.

Nigel Hyman speaks about Peter Orlando Hutchinson (POH), Sidmouth's most important Victorian resident — historian, artist, geologist, archaeologist and musician whose Diaries and History of Sidmouth remain invaluable. The talk examines how his diaries reveal him as ungenerous and unsympathetic to the less fortunate, at odds with Victorian ideals of enlightened philanthropy. The talk is preceded by a very brief East Devon branch AGM. Tickets are sold on the door by the Devonshire Association and no booking is required.
