Learn to Spin Yarn on a Drop Spindle
About
A hands-on outdoor workshop learning drop-spindle spinning, from prepared fleece to handspun yarn, with a Kromski spindle to keep.
Part of a three-workshop series tracing wool from raw fleece to natural colour, this day focuses on drop-spindle spinning. Lily and Nicky Brett cover the history of drop-spindles, how to set up a Kromski spindle, and how to choose fleece qualities for different uses, before guiding participants through drafting, twisting and spinning yarn. Attendees take home their own spindle, the yarn they spin and no prior experience is needed. Tea, coffee and lunch are provided and the session runs five hours outdoors, so warm clothing and sturdy footwear are advised.
