Introduction to Green Woodworking: Spindle – 1 Day Course
About
A one-day green woodworking course with rural crafter Richard Rood, learning to shape green wood with a draw knife and turn it on a spindle pole lathe.
This introductory course teaches the basics of green woodworking, from understanding the properties and handling of green wood to using tools such as the draw knife and pole lathe. Participants start with a log, split it with an axe, shape it on the draw knife and then mount it on a spindle pole lathe to refine their design with chisels, creating a selection of objects to take home. The day runs from 10am to 4pm with a lunch break, is limited to four participants, and requires a decent level of fitness to power the treadle lathe. Tutor Richard Rood brings extensive forestry knowledge of wood types, their properties and uses.
