Bayeux Talk Series: 3 Henry V, Duke of Normandy
About
Professor Anne Curry gives a talk on Henry V's claim to be Duke of Normandy and his revival of William the Conqueror's legacy during the Hundred Years War.
This is the third of three talks at Reading Museum and Town Hall exploring the Bayeux Tapestry. Professor Anne Curry, Emeritus Professor of Medieval History at the University of Southampton, examines Henry V's 1417 landing in Lower Normandy as self-proclaimed Duke of Normandy and his attempt to recreate the link between the English crown and the duchy first forged by William the Conqueror in 1066. The talk covers Henry's revival of Norman ducal institutions, the creation of the Norman rolls, and his grants of land to Englishmen believed to descend from the Norman conquerors. The session runs from 11am to 12pm and is aimed at adults.
