Cathedral Cave from Tilberthwaite [Coniston] - National Park Guided Walk
About
A volunteer-led four-hour National Park guided walk from Tilberthwaite to Slater Bridge, Cathedral Cave and Hodge Close quarry on 29 October 2026.
This 7 km (4.4 mile) volunteer-led walk starts from Tilberthwaite Quarry car park and follows the public way to Little Langdale, taking in the ancient pedestrian Slater Bridge and Cathedral Cave, a large chamber formed by 19th-century slate mining and once owned by Beatrix Potter. The route returns via the impressive Hodge Close quarry, with around 256 m of ascent. Rated grade 4, the walk takes approximately four hours on generally good but potentially muddy or slippery paths, with steep sections, stiles and kissing gates; participants should dress for the terrain and bring a packed lunch.
