Guitar at the Opera
About
Classical guitarist Federico Quercia performs Italian opera favourites by Verdi, Rossini and Mascagni arranged for solo guitar.
Federico Quercia gives a 90-minute classical guitar recital devoted to Italian opera, opening with the mandolin-style tremolo of Mascagni's Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana. The programme includes arrangements of Verdi's The Sicilian Vespers and La Traviata and Rossini's The Barber of Seville, alongside material from La Cenerentola, La Donna del Lago, Il Turco in Italia, Zelmira and Ricciardo e Zoraide. The concert also draws on the operatic guitar traditions of Mauro Giuliani's Rossiniane and Johann Kaspar Mertz's opera fantasies.
