November History Tours
About
A volunteer-led guided history tour of Sheffield General Cemetery, exploring its Victorian monuments, catacombs and notable burials.
This guided tour takes visitors around Sheffield General Cemetery, a Grade II* listed Victorian 'Garden Cemetery' with over 190 years of history and more than 86,500 burials. The tour covers the stories of figures buried there, including industrialist Mark Firth, reformer Samuel Holberry and sweet maker George Bassett, and visits the French-inspired catacombs, listed monuments and the restored Samuel Worth Chapel. Afterwards, attendees can enjoy a complimentary drink in the chapel, with the café and bookstall open from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Proceeds support the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust.
