Carnival as Resistance and Resilience: A Workshop with Indira Toussaint
About
A free participatory workshop led by Saint Lucian poet Indira Toussaint exploring the origins, history and meaning of Carnival.
Bare Radicals and Queercircle host a participatory workshop tracing Carnival from African migration and masquerade traditions through European influences to its life in the UK today. Led by Indira Toussaint, a Saint Lucian poet and cultural producer, the session invites participants to reflect on what Carnival means to them and how resistance and resilience live in its costumes, music and movement. The event is explicitly open to all and is especially curated for people not of African or Caribbean heritage who want to learn about Carnival's histories and experiences.
