Prof. Catherine Heymans: How to Design a Universe

Astronomer Royal Prof. Catherine Heymans explores whether a virtual universe could ever match our own, in a one-hour talk at the Scottish Arts Club.

Astronomer Royal for Scotland Prof. Catherine Heymans gives a talk based on her book How to Design a Universe, exploring whether humanity could ever build a virtual universe as rich as our own. Prompted by her son's question about whether we might be living inside a computer game, she examines the rules governing existence, from the quantum world to the dark Universe, and asks whether consciousness could ever be coded. The event lasts one hour.
