Carrs Mine Trip at Nenthead Open Day

Take a guided underground visit to Carrs Mine and explore its mining history, geology and fluorescent minerals.

A guided visit takes visitors underground into Carrs Mine to explore historic mining methods, local history and geology, including fluorescent minerals. The trip usually takes about 90 minutes. Helmets and lamps are provided; bring outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for rough, uneven ground and underground temperatures around 8°C. Children must be able to walk and climb stairs; babies cannot be taken underground. An optional visit to Brewery Shaft depends on volunteer-guide availability. The published 25 October 2026 date is shown in the Mine Trip booking form, but the Society says no Mine Trip spaces remain this year; check with the organiser for any change in availability.
