Lantern-making and Night-time Mine Trip - Session 1

A free evening lantern-making workshop and lantern-lit underground mine tour at Nenthead Mines, part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival.

Held at Nenthead Mines near Alston as part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival, this evening event begins with a workshop where participants make their own paper lantern to take home. They then process through the mine by lantern light, following in the footsteps of miners past. The event includes an underground tour led by volunteers from Nenthead Mines Conservation Society; the route is generally level and walkable at full height apart from a low first section and two short ladders. Suitable for children aged 7 and over, who must be accompanied by an adult and able to walk unaided.
