Queer Play Reading Club: The Flea by James Fritz
About
Queer Theatre’s play-reading club explores James Fritz’s The Flea, an irreverent retelling of the 1889 Cleveland Street Scandal.
The monthly club shares LGBTQIA+ writing and reads a play with its author. In The Flea, a chain of events beginning with a flea bite leads a boy and his mother into the Cleveland Street scandal of 1889, from Bermondsey to Buckingham Palace. The evening’s special guest is playwright James Fritz; Andrew Keates facilitates discussion after participants share new writing and read the play. This is an informal, participatory table read rather than a staged performance. The room is upstairs at The Railway and accessible only by stairs.
