Tchaikovsky Four
About
The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra under Marios Papadopoulos performs Alexey Shor's Violin Concerto No. 5 with Jinzhu Li and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4.
Prize-winning violinist Jinzhu Li joins the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Marios Papadopoulos for Alexey Shor's Violin Concerto No. 5 in C minor, part of the orchestra's Young Artists' Platform. The second half is devoted to Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, whose opening fanfare the composer described as a metaphor for fate, culminating in a finale built on the Russian folk tune 'In the Field Stood a Birch Tree'. A pre-concert recital takes place at 18:30, and the concert runs approximately 120 minutes.
