The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ trail
About
A family trail inspired by Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar invites young visitors to follow a caterpillar's transformation through Belton's gardens.
The trail is inspired by Eric Carle’s story and invites children under five to explore the caterpillar’s transformation. Pick up the trail sheet at the Information Hub by the pedestrian car-park exit, then follow the activity through the Italian Garden, where the page mentions games and a snack trail. The route may be muddy, so the National Trust recommends wellies or sensible shoes. Published daily hours are 10:00–17:00 from 17 to 31 October 2026. The activity is free; ordinary property admission applies to non-members.
