Beyond the Label: Youth Voices on Stigma, Trust and Violence Prevention
About
An interactive workshop exploring young people's experiences of policing, stigma, justice and violence prevention through the work of Youth Justice Voices.
Co-hosted by STAF, the Scottish Institute for Policing Research and the University of Aberdeen, this four-hour workshop engages participants with the work of Youth Justice Voices, a group of care and justice-experienced young people. Sessions include interactive engagement with YJV's animations on stop and search, their poetry collection with Aberdeen poet Jo Gilbert, and their most recent work, with a sandwich lunch provided. Through short presentations, facilitated discussion and participatory exercises, attendees will consider how labels and assumptions shape interactions between institutions and young people, generating practical recommendations for researchers, practitioners, police officers and policymakers.
