Talk: Dorothy Johnstone's Greengate Close - Dr Keava McMillan
About
Dr Keava McMillan gives a talk at the Sir Duncan Rice Library on Dorothy Johnstone's painting of Greengate Close.
Dr Keava McMillan, a cultural historian of queer interwar art, explores the moment in time that forged Dorothy Johnstone's evocative painting of Greengate Close. The talk situates the work within the story of the Kirkcudbright lane that in the early twentieth century became a place where women could live, work and create together. It also touches on Johnstone's career, from her early Royal Scottish Academy exhibitions and teaching at Edinburgh College of Art to her later years in Aberdeen. The one-hour talk is in person, with doors at 5:15 PM, and is open to all ages.
