The Anonymous Lover Joseph Bologne AKA Le Chevalier De Saint-George
About
A new staging of Joseph Bologne's romantic opera The Anonymous Lover, his only surviving opera, performed at Wales Millennium Centre in March 2027.
The Anonymous Lover is a rarely performed romantic comedy opera by French composer Joseph Bologne, also known as Le Chevalier de Saint-George, and his only surviving opera. It tells of Léontine, a wealthy widow who has sworn off love, and her friend Valcour, who sends her anonymous letters and gifts while hiding his identity for fear of rejection. The production places the orchestra on stage in an energetic baroque-inspired world, staying faithful to Bologne's score while adding a fresh contemporary voice. Performances run on 4, 6 and 12 March 2027 at 19:30.
