Carrying Stream Festival
About
A week-long festival of talks, sessions, workshops and performances celebrating the traditional arts and the legacy of Hamish Henderson.
The Carrying Stream Festival brings together audiences, writers and traditional artists for gatherings, talks, sessions, workshops and performances exploring the changing world of the traditional arts and the legacy of folklorist, songwriter and activist Hamish Henderson. The festival celebrates the 'Carrying Stream' — the organic route by which music, song and spoken word are passed from person to person and generation to generation. It originated with the Edinburgh Folk Club and is revived this year by the Scottish Storytelling Centre with partners across Edinburgh, running from 11 to 17 November 2026 with a programme including an opening session, The Flyting, a memorial lecture and song sessions.
