RSGS Inspiring People Talk: Howard Amos: Russia Starts Here

Author Howard Amos gives an RSGS Inspiring People talk about his book Russia Starts Here, a portrait of modern Russia through the Pskov Region.

Howard Amos presents his book Russia Starts Here, which draws on hundreds of interviews and extensive travel to portray modern Russia through the Pskov Region on the border with NATO and the EU. Once a centre of trade and cultural exchange, Pskov has been shaped by Russian, Nazi and Soviet rule and is now among the poorest and fastest-depopulating parts of Putin's Russia, a key source of recruits for the war in Ukraine. The talk explores these heartlands through the stories of politicians, priests, historians, orphans, doctors and soldiers. The event runs from 7:30pm to 9pm.
