About

A multigenerational embroidery workshop explores a 1948 tablecloth made by child survivors at Lingfield House and invites families to create their own embroidered patch.

The workshop explores the story of Zdenka Husserl and other children who survived the Holocaust and came to England to live at Lingfield House. The children learned, played and recovered there with support from peers and the community, and embroidered a tablecloth in 1948 showing their happiest moments. That artefact is in the museum collection and can be seen in The Journey exhibition. Participants use the tablecloth and these stories as inspiration for a personal embroidered patch celebrating joys in their own or family life. No sewing experience is necessary; the workshop is suitable for multigenerational families and ages 9+. The workshop has no additional charge beyond admission: adult £10, concession aged 65+ £9, child aged 8–17 £7.50; a free return ticket is available to visitors who attended within the previous 12 months and show their valid admission ticket. Booking is required.
