130 Years of Cinema: Archive Short Films
About
A screening of seven archive short films spanning 130 years of Welsh cinema, from 1898 to 2021.
This screening presents seven archive short films tracing 130 years of cinema in Wales, spanning genres from action and animation to drama and factual films. The programme runs from the earliest known short film made in Wales in 1898 to Joanna Quinn's award-winning 2021 animation Affairs of the Art, and includes silent films, a 1906 Wales v Ireland football match, a Jerry the Tyke cartoon, a wildlife documentary about gannets on Grassholm, and stories from a Dial-a-Ride bus in the Brecon Beacons. The films carry mixed certifications (Dial-a-Ride is PG, Affairs of the Art is 12A) and are suitable for children aged 12 or above, or younger when accompanied by an adult.
