From Darkness to Light
About
Ealing Choral Society trace a journey from darkness to light, from Durufle's chamber Requiem for organ and strings through Britten's A Ceremony of Carols to Kuhnau's Magnificat.
The programme centres on Maurice Durufle's Requiem in the composer's more intimate version for organ and strings, with harp, trumpets and timpani ad libitum; Durufle omits the Dies Irae and places forgiveness and eternal rest at the work's centre. Britten's A Ceremony of Carols, for treble voices and harp, marks the 50th anniversary of the composer's death. Paul Patterson's Nunc Dimittis is performed in celebration of the society's Vice President's 80th year, and Johann Kuhnau's Magnificat closes the evening. Programme: Durufle: Requiem; Britten: A Ceremony of Carols; Patterson: Nunc Dimittis; Kuhnau: Magnificat.
