Deep Time Walk in Kensington Gardens & Hyde Park
About
A free 3-hour guided walk compressing Earth's 4.6-billion-year history into a stroll through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park.
This immersive guided walk compresses Earth's entire history into a single 4.6km stroll through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, with every metre representing one million years, from the planet's fiery birth to the arrival of humans. Exercises and questions punctuate the three-hour walk, sparking group exchanges and reflection on time, our place within it and our actions. The walk format was co-created in 2007 by Dr Stephan Harding and geologist Sergio Maraschin. No science background is needed; the walk is open to all adults and children aged 10 and above supervised by a responsible guardian, with 18 scheduled stops along the route.
