Visible Invisibles: Women in Roman Archaeology
About
A lecture by Dr Rebecca Jones and Tatiana Ivleva on the overlooked contributions of women to Roman archaeology in Britain and beyond.
The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland hosts this two-hour in-person lecture examining the role of female scholars in Roman archaeology. The speakers present collaborative research on women working in Roman Britain and Roman provincial archaeology during the 19th and 20th centuries, exploring biographies of individual women and the barriers — wealth, university and employment restrictions, fields of study, geography — that limited their recognition. Case studies of key scholars and emerging themes and trends will be presented.
