Hamish Napier: The Hill
About
Hamish Napier premieres The Hill, the fourth instalment of his Strathspey Pentalogy, at Celtic Connections with a string quartet, fiddlers and a rhythm section.
Highland composer Hamish Napier presents the premiere of The Hill, the fourth and largest instalment of his five-album Strathspey Pentalogy celebrating Badenoch & Strathspey. Themed on the mountains and braes that feed the River Spey, including the Monadhliath and Cairngorms, the suite explores Gaelic hill names, folklore and heritage across twenty tracks and thirty new airs and melodies, including a full bagpipe pibroch and a Gaelic song in memory of his late grandfather. Napier, a flautist, pianist and singer, performs with a string quartet and rhythm section featuring cellist Su-a Lee, Ross Ainslie, Fraser Stone, James Lindsay, Ewan Robertson and a line-up of fiddlers.
