Brìghde Chaimbeul & Scottish Ensemble
About
Brìghde Chaimbeul joins Scottish Ensemble at Tramway for a cross-genre Celtic Connections performance pairing Scottish smallpipes with strings and film visuals.
Part of Celtic Connections 2027, this performance brings together piper Brìghde Chaimbeul and the Scottish Ensemble, pulling the sounds of a string orchestra in unfamiliar directions through the distinctive power of the Scottish smallpipes. The programme draws on the folklore and history of Skye, from traditional Gaelic waulking songs and the tale of the Spòg Liath to the phases of the moon and Scotland's island landscapes. Music rooted in heavy drones and rich string tones is paired with bewitching visuals by filmmaker Jonny Ashworth. The show starts at 7.30pm.
