Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
About
The largest-ever survey of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham's eight-decade career, bringing together over 170 works tracing her journey from landscape to bold abstraction.
This exhibition at Tate St Ives is the largest and most comprehensive survey of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, a key figure in British modernism and St Ives's mid-century art community. Over 170 paintings, drawings and archival materials follow her career from early landscapes and studio interiors to the vibrant Scorpio paintings of her final decades. At its heart is the largest-ever museum presentation of her glacier works, inspired by a 1949 visit to Switzerland's Grindelwald Glacier, exploring her theme of 'looking in / looking out'.
