Heritage Talk: Northamptonshire Villas and Life in the Countryside
About
Archaeologist Dr Michael J Curtis gives a heritage talk on Roman villas and rural life in the Northamptonshire countryside.
This heritage talk examines Roman Northamptonshire's countryside through its archaeological evidence, exploring how villas grew from modest farmsteads into impressive estates that served as centres of agricultural enterprise supplying nearby towns and the wider province. Dr Michael J Curtis discusses who lived and worked in these villas and what they reveal about wealth, status and the adoption of Roman lifestyles. The speaker is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Leicester and a landscape archaeologist specialising in Roman Britain and the Mediterranean. The talk runs 2pm to 3pm, with a tea & talk ticket option including a hot drink.
