Conservation of Textiles
About
A study day with textile conservator Rebecca Bissonnet on caring for historic textiles, followed by an afternoon V&A tour led by Francesca Herrick.
Part of West Dean's Curious About Conservation series, this beginners' study day explores how to care for and preserve historic textiles. The morning session with textile conservator Rebecca Bissonnet covers conservation principles, case studies for clients including the National Trust and Historic Royal Palaces, agents of decay and pest management, plus a practical stitch task. In the afternoon, art historian Francesca Herrick leads a visit to the V&A Museum in South Kensington, viewing highlights such as a state bed, rare tapestries and exceptional embroideries; the day ends at the museum at 5.15pm.
