The Goal of Our Health
About
A solo exhibition of Alexis Kyle Mitchell's hand-processed 16mm films exploring health, disability, labour and the legacy of eugenics.
Alexis Kyle Mitchell's solo exhibition brings together three 16mm films made with hand-processed celluloid: The Treasury of Human Inheritance (2024), Fit to Work (2026) and the Plates series (2025), shown together for the first time in an immersive installation drawing on industrial, medical and fitness settings. The works explore genetic inheritance, disability, labour and the 'productive' body, with an underlying concern about the lingering influence of eugenics thinking on health and care. Fit to Work was shot around Sheffield, layering the city's post-industrial architecture and archives with ideas from the German Socialist Patients' Collective.
