The Maydan Ensemble of the North London Jazz Collective

The Maydan Ensemble, a quintet blending modern jazz with Arabic, Anatolian and Persian folk music, performs at Jazzlive at The Crypt.

The Maydan Ensemble of the North London Jazz Collective is a London-based quintet exploring the meeting point of jazz and Middle Eastern musical traditions. Their set combines jazz-canon material inspired by West Asia with the group's own jazz-flavoured arrangements of Arabic, Anatolian and Persian folk tunes. The band takes its name from the word for 'town square', reflecting its ethos of music as a communal, convivial act. The 18-and-over gig is presented by Jazzlive at The Crypt with doors at 8pm.
