Practical Volunteer Day - Geological Restoration
About
A volunteer day with the Countryside Rangers and Aberdeen Geological Society clearing vegetation and silt from the Geological Unconformity at Brig o' Balgownie.
Volunteers join the Countryside Rangers and Aberdeen Geological Society to restore the Geological Unconformity on the south bank of the River Don near the old Bridge of Balgownie. The work involves clearing vegetation and silt from the rock formation, where several different types and ages of rock meet at unusual orientations, and clearing the steps and access path down to the riverbank. Participants should bring a packed lunch and wear outdoor clothing and footwear they don't mind getting muddy, meeting at the Bridge of Balgownie Viewpoint. The session runs for five hours and offers a chance to learn about local geology while helping out.
