Exhibition: Made by Mary Beck - Dressmaking through the Decades
About
An exhibition at Hawick Museum showcasing garments by dressmaker Mary Beck, tracing changing styles and handcraft across the decades.
This exhibition displays a collection of garments made by dressmaker Mary Beck, showing how style, fabric and technique changed across the decades, from elegant silhouettes to practical everyday wear. Vintage hand sewing machines, dressmaking tools and fabrics are also on display. The display evolves through three planned changeovers: 1970s and 1980s work until mid-May, then a Hawick Common Riding theme including a Cornet's Lass Colour Bussing dress, and from August amateur theatrical costumes and the season's last wedding dress.
