About

Mark McConnell examines Christophe Plantin’s strategy for publishing botanical works in the sixteenth century.

Mark McConnell explores how Christophe Plantin entered botanical publishing, using Plantin’s publishing-cost data and sales records. The lecture considers the work of Low Countries naturalists including Rembert Dodoens, Mathias L’Obel and Carolus Clusius, and the artistic, commercial and horticultural context of the period. The published programme places the regular meeting in person at the Society of Antiquaries and says lectures are livestreamed; members may bring guests. Physical attendance requirements and price are not stated.
