Social Housing – A Century Of Future Visions On Film

A free drop-in matinee of three archive films tracing a century of social housing, presented by Staffordshire Film Archive.

This MAC Matinee screening presents three films on the history and achievements of social housing. Housing Problems (1935) captures slum residents speaking to camera about their living conditions, while Land of Promise (1946) uses multi-voice narration to dramatise post-war housing policy. The programme closes with 100 Years of Social Housing (2025), a new film for the Stoke 100 celebrations featuring archive footage, narration by Fred Hughes and commentary from Dave Proudlove, with a focus on the Bentilee estate. Films start promptly at 11am with no trailers or adverts.
