A Ritual for Playing in the Rain the Way We Used To
About
An exhibition of work by participation artist-in-residence Rose Nordin and young migrants from Brighter Futures, exploring scent as a way of holding memories of place.
Rose Nordin and Brighter Futures, a group of young migrants supported by Praxis and Kazzum Arts, present the culmination of a residency exploring how fragrance can hold memories and evoke places beyond spoken language. Through workshops, each collaborator developed their own fragrance connected to places important to them, working between smell, words, colour, drawing and print. The exhibition presents these fragrances, drawings and reflections through Nordin's graphic and installation work, including a 'scent alphabet' giving each scent a visual symbol, alongside a scented publication, A Cloud in the Fold of the Elbow. A public programme of events and training sessions accompanies the exhibition.
