CWGC Tours 2026- Lerwick Cemetery
About
Free guided tours of Lerwick Cemetery by Commonwealth War Graves Commission volunteers, telling stories from both world wars.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission runs free volunteer-led tours of Lerwick Cemetery, lasting about 60 minutes and covering roughly 350 metres on uneven ground. The tour covers stories from both world wars, including David Ernest Hornell, V.C., and the impact of the conflicts on Shetland, plus the history of the CWGC. The cemetery holds 42 Commonwealth burials from 1914-18, 74 from 1939-45 and 3 Norwegian war burials. Tours meet inside the gate at the top section of the cemetery, alongside the Cross of Sacrifice; attendees should dress for the weather and note there are no facilities on site.
