Despite Invisibilities, Women Photographers are Record-Keepers: Lisel Haas Archive, Francesca Odell, Emma-Faye Tsui
About
An exhibition of archival photographs by Lisel Haas, Francesca Odell and Emma-Faye Tsui, curated by Nelly Ating, highlighting under-represented women photographers as record-keepers.
Curated by Nelly Ating in collaboration with Bertz Associates and Ffotogallery, this exhibition presents archival works by three photographers: German-born Jewish photographer Lisel Haas, British photographer Francesca Odell, and Emma-Faye Tsui, a British photographer and child of Asian migrants. Their images of family, neighbours and community life raise questions about identity, migration, class, gender and place, and about whose record-keeping becomes part of public knowledge. The exhibition argues that archives are not neutral repositories but living records shaped by the choices and positions of those who create them.
