Alston Moor Stargazing
About
Dr Jurgen Schmoll presents a history of telescope development, followed by a chance to use the Alston Moor Observatory and join guided stargazing if weather permits.
The talk follows the development of telescopes from early instruments to the 39.5-metre telescope under construction. Afterward, visitors can see and use the observatory and, if conditions allow, join guided stargazing. Cloudy skies do not cancel the evening; astronomy presentations and discussion continue. The clubhouse opens at 19:00, while the event itself starts at 19:30. The programme is expected to finish between 21:00 and 21:30, with the option to continue stargazing if conditions allow. Suitable for ages eight and over; children must attend with an adult. Uneven ground; no dogs.
