Lesbian Leaders in the ’30s Republican Spain + Queer Short Films
About
A book launch and in-conversation on lesbian women in 1930s Republican Spain, followed by a Latin American queer shorts screening.
Part of the VI London Festival of Queer Spanish Culture, the evening opens with Isabella Lorusso in conversation with Jorge Gárriz about her oral-history book 'Lesbian Leaders in the ’30s Republican Spain – Mujeres Libres y feministas', gathering testimonies of women who militated in the POUM and anarchist movement during the Spanish Civil War, including poet Lucía Sánchez Saornil of Mujeres Libres. Cinema Mentiré then presents 'Será Inmortal: Latin American Shorts on Queer Memories and Archives', a programme of seven short films from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Uruguay exploring queer memory, repression and resistance. The event is in English and runs two hours.
